This results in a situation where a user might be listening to a track, then suddenly, “Turn left in 3 miles” (or some other inappropriate sound file) plays.

If, like me you only want to listen to the MP3 files that you have actually put into your ‘Music’ folder, then here is the solution.

Simple!

Place a ‘.nomedia‘ (Right Click, Save As) file into the folders you do not want to be included in the music player.

Restart the phone, then you should only have the music files that you want to listen to in your player!

Works for all Android devices, G1, G2, MyTouch, Hero, Dream, Magic, Sapphire etc.

A member called Stericson has been able to port the very nice GUI of the Music player from the new HTC Hero phone over to the plain Jane G1 aka HTC Dream.

It has been tested on a few different Roms now, and seems to be working fine.

I’ve tried it on the Google ION Rom, and it seems to work fine!
