UK G1 RC9 Firmware Update Coming Soon?
Reports are sweeping across the various tech blogs this morning, confirming that a new firmware update for the T-Mobile G1 is now available. So far limited to the US, the RC33 G1 update has already made its way to a handful of G1 owners.
It is not currently known what new features this new update contains, but it has been confirmed that this isn’t the much anticipated ‘Cupcake’ update.
“To ensure a great experience with the T-Mobile G1 with Google, customers with these devices will receive an Over the Air (OTA) update to their devices between February 5 and February 15. This OTA will include new system enhancements such as the ability to save pictures or files to file by long-pressing an item, check for system updates, and use the Google Voice Search feature. The OTA will also fix a number of known issues. New G1 activations will receive the OTA up to three days after service has been activated.”
In the past, the UK G1 update has followed the US release so hopefully we should expect to see an RC 9 firmware update over the coming weeks.

Has anyone got this update yet? I got my G1 Yesterday – It came with RC8, and I havn’t recieved any OTA update… I guess it might come tomorrow

Judging from the rc33 US update, there won’t be any cupcake elements, don’t know of any battery improvements but I hope so. From what I gather however, the android market will be updated to allow for paid applications, the ability to report spam on comments left on the market, and google voice search. However, on the iphone version of voice search it apparently had problems understanding british accents, so I’ve heard a rumour that we might have to wait for google to iron it out abit. Best thing will be paid apps though, bit more incentive for companies to build us some decent apps, rather than a load of tip calculators. No idea when it’ll be released but I can’t imagine it’ll be too long.

Ive had my G1 in the UK since November and I got my RC9 update at about 3am this morning.

1) Where abouts in the UK do you live?
2) What time did the OTA update come through?
3) Was your phone battery fully charged, or on charge?
4) Was you connected to WiFi at the time or 2/3G ?

I got my update and I’m from the north west. And it toke mins. I don’t really see much diffrents yet. Bit better graphics tho =]

I got mine this morning in Manchester.
Noticed the smoother scrolling in text message screen and ‘updates available’ notes in the market, but not a great deal else…

got my rc9 update this morning bout 5am.i live in essex.cant see anything different.any1 would like to tell me the difference

There isn’t really anything much different … so far people have noticed
1) Abiity to mark comments as spam, long hold the ‘report as spam’ (in the market)
2) Locale settings
3) Check for System Updates
……… that’s about it!

Got my update on Monday morning. Not much new, most useful things:
1. Check for updates in market
2. Smoother scrolling and loading in messaging
3. You can delete an alarm by long clicking
