Paid apps for the UK Android G1?

Posted By: News on Feb 26, 2009 in Mobile Phones

Well, until we get the RC9 update here in the UK we will not be able to see what all the hype is about the new paid apps.

Well now you can see them from the comfort of your PC.

Visit : http://www.cyrket.com

This website reads all the apps available from the Market store and displays them in an easy format online!

So if you are from the UK, you can see all the paid apps too!

Just got the RC9 update this morning, no sign of any paid apps in the market, unless im missing something it doesnt seem to support it. Also the Google Lattitude service which is apparently included in the US RC33 doesn’t seem to be present. In fact, the only things that seem to have changed are the firmwear version number and the addition of a ‘Check for updates’ button in the settings. :(

Wow, I haven’t heard of anyone else getting this update.

      Few questitions?

      1) Where abouts in the UK do you live?
      2) What time did the OTA update come through?
      3) Was your phone battery fully charged, or on charge?
      4) Was you connected to WiFi at the time or 2/3G ?

      Cheers Andrew.

    1) I live in Birmingham
    2) Not sure exactly what time but it was on the the message was on the screen when i got up this morning.
    3) The battery was at about 50% and wasn’t plugged into the charger.
    3) I was connected to WiFi

On the point of WiFi, Just last night i downloaded an app which keeps the wifi on even when the screen turns off rather than switching back to 3G so that may have had something to do with it. The app was Keep WiFi, also I have a 16MB broadband so if it was through the WiFi that may have helped it come down quickly.

      That’s brilliant Andrew,

Maybe it’s started up North and working it’s way down the country!

I’ve also installed a similar app, although I’m using Wifi Lock (http://www.metserve.com/2009/phones/wifi-lock-for-android)

Hopefully the update will come through today or at least before the weekend!

      Thanks for the update!

Im In Surrey and got it at 3am, my 3G is on permanently and my phone is always on but the wifi was not connected… I got a pop up telling me the update was available…

You can save MMS with it and when I uninstalled an app earlier it said to me that my data would be saved and I would not have to re-purchase if I wanted to downloade it again.

Does that mean you now have access to the paid apps?

Another member said he didn’t get access to that section, despite getting RC9.

Can you confirm what the situation is on that?

      Cheers!

A randomly selected 1000 G1 users in the UK got this. The rest will get it when T-Mobile and HTC are happy it has been deployed succesfully

Hi, it was me who said there was no paid apps in the market. Which is still the case for me, however I have since noticed a few improvements to the market including the notification of updates to applications in the notification bar like Sharz said. I’m thinking maybe the paid apps are supported in the RC9 updated but maybe the just feature hasn’t been activated yet for the UK and will be turned on once the RC9 is fully rolled out.
