Lawyers want file sharers to confess

In the past law firms like Davenport Lyons have tried alleged bullying tactics to scare internet users into paying up for alleged illegal file sharing offences, but now it appears that another firm, ACS Law is trying another route.

The idea is that the firm sends a broadband user a questionnaire with a letter that states that the user’s broadband service has been used to download or share copyrighted material.

It all sounds legal, but according to the consumer magazine Which? These questionnaires are no more than phishing by the law firm.

But in this case, instead of trying to ease personal information out someone, ACS Law are attempting to get broadband users to incriminate themselves or someone else, who is then pursued for payment.
