With WordPress becoming arguably the best blog / cms package available, there are certain plugins that you must have if you are wanting a successful blog!

Below is a list we have compiled to help you obtain some of the very best plugins available to help enhance your WordPress experience.

10 Must Have WordPress Plugins

All in One SEO Pack
Optimizes your WordPress blog for Search Engines (Search Engine Optimization).

http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/all-in-one-seo-pack/

DB Backup
WP-DB-Backup allows you easily to backup your core WordPress database tables. You may also backup other tables in the same database.

http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-db-backup/

Exclude Pages
This plugin adds a checkbox, “include this page in menus”, which is checked by default. If you uncheck it, the page will not appear in any listings of pages (which includes, and is usually limited to, your page navigation menus).

http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/exclude-pages/

Google Analyticator
Google Analyticator adds the necessary JavaScript code to enable Google Analytics logging on any WordPress blog. This eliminates the need to edit your template code to begin logging. Google Analyticator also includes several widgets for displaying Analytics data in the admin and on your blog.

http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/google-analyticator/

Google Sitemap Generator
This plugin will create a Google sitemaps compliant XML-Sitemap of your WordPress blog. It supports all of the WordPress generated pages as well as custom ones. Everytime you edit or create a post, your sitemap is updated and all major search engines that support the sitemap protocol, like ASK.com, Google, MSN Search and YAHOO, are notified about the update.

http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/google-sitemap-generator/

Nextgen Gallery
NextGEN Gallery is a full integrated Image Gallery plugin for WordPress with a Flash slideshow option. Before I start writing the plugin I study all photo and picture plugins for WordPress, I figure out that some of them are really good and well designed, but I missed a simple and easy administration back end to handle multiple photos, galleries and albums.

http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/nextgen-gallery/

Register Plus
Enhance your Registration Page with a Custom Logo, Password Field, Invitation Codes, Disclaimers, Captcha Validation, User Moderation, Profile Fields, Duplicate Email Registration Detection and more.

http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/register-plus/

The ShareThis WordPress plugin provides a simple way for users to add your post to many social bookmarking sites, or to send a link to your post via email, AIM, Facebook, Twitter and more.

http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/share-this/

Twitter Tools
Twitter Tools is a plugin that creates a complete integration between your WordPress blog and your Twitter account.

http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/twitter-tools/

Digg This
WP Digg This is a plugin that adds a Digg button, but with a twist. Instead of adding a Digg button to all your posts, WP Digg This plugin selectively adds the button only to posts you want.

Just like Windows Vista, Windows 7 can be used legally for up to 120 days without activating with a valid 25-character alphanumeric product key. Windows typically comes with a 30-day time limit for users to activate their copy of the operating system, but there’s a command that is often used by corporate administrators to reset the 30-day countdown. The rearm command can be used up to three times without violating the Windows 7 EULA. Thus, if the user resets the countdown on the last day each time, he or she can gain up to 90 extra days to use Windows 7 legally and for free. The Windows Secrets newsletter outlined the step-by-step instructions for extending the grace period:

Step 1: Click Start, All Programs, Accessories. Right-click Command Prompt and choose Run As Administrator. Enter your administrator password.

Step 2: Type the following command and press Enter: slmgr -rearm (note the space after slmgr and the hyphen in front of rearm.)

Step 3: Restart Windows 7.

Most users won’t have to bother with these three steps since the majority, about 95 percent, get new versions of Windows with a new computer. For the five percent or so who purchase Windows 7 at retail, 30 days is likely enough to punch in the product key. Pirates will of course have their own methods to get around activation, and here’s confirmation that they have plenty of time to do so. No, this is certainly aimed at administrators who need to delay activation for whatever reason, and even though 120 days seems a little over the top, we’re sure many of them are relieved to know the number of days hasn’t been reduced in Vista’s successor.

Windows Vista Service Pack 2 is now available for download. The Vista SP2 update includes new support for recording Blu-ray discs straight from the Vista OS, updated support for Bluetooth v2.1, and bug fixes that address slow shutdowns and mysterious crashes.

You can download Vista SP2 directly from Microsoft at its Web site (348MB) or it will be automatically delivered to your Vista system via Windows Update within a few weeks, according to Microsoft. You must have Vista SP1 installed on your system to install the SP2 Vista.

Additional Vista SP2 Updates

Besides Blu-ray and Bluetooth support, Vista SP2 also:

* Fixes Wi-Fi issues when Vista awakes from sleep mode.

* Improves performance of Vista desktop sidebar gadget, allowing for RSS feeds to perform better.

* Address overall Vista system performance issues. Microsoft says SP2 repairs nearly 700 nagging Vista bugs and security updates.

* Boosts power management efficiency by 10 percent.

* Gives your computer support for VIA Technologies’ new 64-bit CPU

* Lets your system support exFAT, which can handle larger files and can also use UTC timestamps so you can synchronize files across different time zones.

Back up, back up, back up …. it’s what I would always advise to anyone. Can you trust your hardware for those memories you could never replace? or the important office documents that took you hours to complete? Well it’s good to have an external drive as storage, however having a secured online storage can be very beneficial.

After extensive research, I found the answer; Livedrive

Never run out of storage space again!
Access and store your files easily using FTP.
Works like a normal hard drive.
Manage your photo albums with Livedrive’s new Facebook integration.
Edit and create Office documents via the web to get full power of Microsoft Office from anywhere and with no need to install software or purchase licenses.
Livedrive is the only online hard drive in the world that allows you to access your files even when your computer isn’t connected to the Internet.

You can get 100GB of secure online storage for under £40 a year ….. that’s just 75p a week!

I’ve been using it for about 2 weeks now and I’m very impressed, why don’t you give it a try? If you don’t like it within 30 days you can get your money back !

Firstly, can I say that over the years I have tried many many ‘all in one’ messaging protocols.

Personally, they have all failed in one way or another. Either the free version was not enough, or the UI and options available on the free version were just useless.

Now, if like me you are using MSN (Windows Live Messenger), ICQ, Gtalk, Google Mail and Facebook ……. then there is a new software that has been released that I have been using now for a few days.

Check out: http://www.digsby.com

Still in it’ Beta stages it has impressed me somewhat massively.

The customisable options are great, it has works flawlessly the graphic UI is really nice.

A winner all day for me, and gets the thumbs up!

Ready to party like it’s 1234567890? Computer lovers certainly are.

That’s because at precisely 23:31:30 GMT tonight (Friday), the ten-digit clock used by Unix computers – which includes the servers that run everything from the internet to air traffic control – will display all ten decimal digits in sequence.

For computer geeks everywhere, this seemingly dubious milestone deserve celebrations just like those that greeted the end of the millennium. Parties are planned around the world from London to New York, to Yerevan in Armenia and Asunción in Paraguay.

But after the brief flash of joy, comes the dread. Computer scientists fear the worst for the next major moment in Unix time – some time in the year 2038, when the Unix clock will run out of seconds it can count. On that January day, computers will fail to compute time, and crash. Your computer could shut down. Vehicles may pile up as traffic lights fail. Planes could fall out of the sky. The advice is to party now, because the digital apocalypse may soon be upon us.

Understanding how this will happen requires you to do away with your parochial understanding of time, and instead think more like a machine. You, being human, were under the impression that today was merely Friday February 13 in the year of our Lord, 2009.

Computers count time differently. They simply count the seconds from “Co-ordinated Standard Time”, or to human beings, the seconds elapsed from midnight, January 1, 1970 – the digital equivalent of the birth of Christ. Unix time is how many seconds there have been since then (not including leap seconds, in case you were wondering).

But why is 1234567890 a more significant moment in time than any other sequence of numbers?

“All calendars are just arbitrary,” argues Julian Burgess, a web developer from London. “Celebrating the millennium – why do that? It was just like any other day, the Earth rotates on its axis and it moves around the Sun. All these things are arbitrary, so for geeks to celebrate Unix time is something for them to enjoy.”

Others said it was the beauty of the number sequence that was worthy of celebration. “If you can’t get excited about all those numbers lined up in a row, well then this will clearly be lost on you,” said Ben Doddington, a computer scientist from Bookham in Surrey.

Unix is an operating system, like Windows which runs PCs, that was developed in the late 1960s by Bell Labs. Millions of modern PCs, including Apple’s Macintosh computers, and entire computer systems still run on Unix or derivatives of it, such as Linux.

When Unix was first developed, computer storage of information was expensive, and with time being infinite, this created a problem. The brains behind Unix needed to cut down how much time a computer could store. So the developers created a time-counting system where time is represented as a 32-bit integer. This means that every second can be represented by a comination of 32 zeros or ones.

The problem with a 32-bit integer like this is that it can only count 4,294,967,296 seconds, or 136 years. This covers a period between 1901 and 2038. Once the Unix time clocks reach that moment they will “overflow” and the fear is many computers will stop working as a result, or at least suffer major problems. It’s the same principle as the millennium bug, but one that many scientists believe should be be taken more seriously, as only people who count in binary will see it coming.

Fear not, the same computer scientists who were alone in celebrating the 1234567890 moment are the ones we will now rely on to update modern computer systems to a new counting system that will use a 64-bit integer. This will allow computers to count back 20 times the age of the universe, and around 293 billion years into the future. At which point, if man and machine are still around, they will have to deal with same problem all over again.
